Writing is very old-fashioned, but I really don't mind that. When I write, I'm really thinking primarily of my generation, and the people older than me, and that I'm writing for them and taking this little thing to the grave. And when I think about younger people, I'm always delighted if they read me, but always quite surprised as well. I don't expect it, and I also don't expect the novel in this form to go on indefinitely.
