What the ark builders have in common — the ice corers and the seed vaulters, the writers and the biologists and the nuclear engineers — is that they have each made an investment in the present in exchange for a benefit they personally will never collect.
In fact, the man that would go on to build the world's largest hotel chain started with a nine-seat root beer stand in Washington, DC with $6,000 and a simple goal: serve people well and build something that lasts.
So many of my interviews these days feel like jousting with someone's soul, trying to get to the personal core of what makes them an artist. But I also love these interviews where the premise is, essentially, tell me a story so I can commit it to history.
