When you're solving a crossword, the crossword is all there is. A four-walled world of squares and clues with one objective and one correct solution. There is a problem, and the problem is solvable. What I am really high on, when I am living in that little world, is control.
There's a reality here that you simply do not stay up to date on what everyone is doing. You'll spend all your energy keeping tabs instead of doing the work you actually should be doing.
We were in a really great place as a business. But the cost of spending time on things that aren't important, or that you believe don't have a future, is immense.

The mind of a thoroughly well-informed man is a dreadful thing. It is like a bazaar overcrowded with cheap wares, all one's attention is perpetually distracted by some new and startling suggestion.
I only ever have a fairly small amount of looking in my system, I guess you could say, and I wanted, rather zealously and also somewhat self-protectively, I wanted to reserve all my looking-energy for the Friedrich paintings.
We believe in saying no to thousands of projects so that we can really focus on the few that are truly important and meaningful to us. We believe in deep collaboration and cross-pollination of our groups, which allow us to innovate in a way that others cannot.
