First, the pressure applied by AI will eventually (or imminently?) rupture the global internet that we've come to know for the past 25 years. But second, as society moves to more localized solutions and products, that may in fact be a welcome development for all of us who have come to accept degraded experiences throughout our technological lives.

The most important thing about a technology is how it changes the options available to people. Most technologies become less interesting as they become more widely distributed, but communications technologies become more interesting — the value of a network grows as more people join it. The same is not true of a hammer or a loom.
