Any system has only a finite number of security vulnerabilities, so if we have new AI models that are good enough to comb over the code and fix the weak points very quickly, that should privilege the defense over the offense.
What makes the one-time pad interesting isn't the math. It's that the limiting factor was always trust, logistics, and human error under pressure — the same things that compromise nearly every security system.
At the same time, for the majority of people, encryption is a protective technology. Activists, sex workers, LGBTQ users in authoritarian states, people discussing reproductive rights in post-Dobbs America, and journalists and their sources are among the many groups that benefit from being able to talk in private.
