Why did Comcast ever buy NBC?

AT&T tried content plus pipes when it bought Time Warner. Verizon tried content plus pipes when it bought AOL and Yahoo, and, hell, AOL tried content plus pipes when it bought Time Warner in the early 2000s. You might notice a trend here — all of those deals ended in disaster.

I can't figure out any strategy other than the Ellisons are either themselves very politically motivated to change the tone and tenor of CBS and 60 or they see more money incurring favor with the Trump administration who seems to be — I've heard — was incandescently enraged by the interview with Marjorie Taylor Green.

for innovation to work in a corporate but has to look and feel like a real startup. It needs its own budget, a clear, finite time span, specific deliverables, and tough stage gates where ideas are reviewed and must earn the right to keep going exactly as they would if a founding team was pitching for the next funding round.
