Big tech rivals have long tried to supplant Apple but so far Google, Samsung, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and Amazon.com have all failed. It is crazy. People think, you know, okay, Android was successful but captured like onetenth of the actual value because the margins on Android devices are so much lower, but you forget that Jeff Bezos stood on stage and said, "We're launching the Amazon Fire phone and we're going to win."

The way I think about it is, Uber is the operating system for your everyday life. And an operating system is only as good as the apps that run on it. So we want to be the platform on which your everyday life runs, whether it's getting from point A to point B, whether it's getting food delivered to you, whether it's getting groceries delivered to you.

The goal is to make Uber so useful that it becomes your default relationship for getting around and getting things done in the real world. And I think the super-app vision, where you can order food, get a ride, get a package delivered, book a flight — all from one place — is something that's very natural for consumers, because they don't want to have 15 different apps. They want one trusted relationship.

I actually think the Waymo relationship is a really good example of how we want to work with AV companies. We want to be the demand side. We want to be the platform. We don't want to own the cars, we don't want to maintain the cars, we don't want to manufacture the cars. We want to be the operating system on top of which AV companies operate.

For the first time, we have such a common infrastructure powering all of them with our Gemini models and the underlying AI infrastructure. So we are more able to, with intent, do things which cut across things.
