If she were a black gay progressive, uh it would be my body, my choice, sexist work, um you know, girl boss, and instead because she's a white MAGA uh Republican, everyone's outraged. No, I think it's a double standard.
I saw a reluctance among Democrats to say they had done something wrong, that they had been using language that might alienate a voter, that might get them laughed at on Fox News. And in their minds, this was a really pain-free and sensible and tolerant way of saying that they were a diverse party that wanted to represent Native Americans.
What's happened in the US over the last many decades is that these really important identities like racial and religious identities have become associated in our minds with our party identity. So when we go vote in an election, we're not just feeling like our party wins or loses, we're feeling like our party and our racial group and our religious group and all these big parts of what makes us who we are, all of those things get wrapped up in the outcome of the election also.
